Spring Photography Competition

Congratulations to Stuart Dun, winner of the Spring Photo Competition. The £30 cash prize will be coming your way any minute. Stuart also won the Autumn Photo Competition last year, so I think he can justly claim to be Middleton’s best amateur photographer by some margin! All the photos from the Spring competition can be viewed in  the gallery.

The rules are shown below for information, and if you would like to see the entries for last year’s competition, “Autumn in Middleton”, you can still view the winning entries in this gallery too.

Rules

1. Everyone is eligible to enter the competition i.e. both residents and visitors to the area.

2. Only one entry per person.

3. Photographs must have been taken by the entrant between 15th February and 31st May, 2008.

4. The photographic location should be in North Middleton, Borthwick, or the surrounding area (e.g. 3 mile radius).

5. If photographs contain recognisable people, the entry must be accompanied by a statement that everyone shown has seen the photo and has given permission for it to be used in this competition.

6. Entries should preferably be emailed as an attachment to vice-chair@middletonvillagehall.org.uk with an appropriate subject line (e.g. “Photo entry”). Alternatively, to help as many people as possible enter the competition, digital entries will be accepted if delivered on disk to 39 Cleuch Road, North Middleton. Conventional prints may also be entered if delivered by the closing date to the above address. Please note that any conventional photos will be digitised for judging online.

7. Entrants must give their name and address and optionally, a title for their photograph.

8. Entries should be digital photographs or conventional prints (no transparencies, please).

9. An absolute maximum file size of 5MB is to be observed. If the entry is larger than this size, it will be resized to less than 5MB.

10. All entries will be resized for display on the website as a JPEG image where the largest dimension is 800 pixels. If entrants would like this process to be within their control, they may submit a suitably resized version along with the original.

11. All entries will be displayed on this website by 10th June 2008.

12. An independent judge will be appointed to choose a short list of five finalists.

13. The five top photos will be selected and the prize winner chosen from that short list. Professional prints (approx A4 size) will be made of the five finalists for display in the village hall.

14. The winner will be announced before 30th June 2008.

15. If the chosen winner is the competition organiser, the prize will be awarded to the closest runner up.

16. All entrants retain copyright for their photographs, but they will grant Middleton Village Community Hall Association and any sponsor of this competition the right to use their photograph free of charge in any promotional material, including websites.

17. The rules of this competition may be changed at any time by decision of the village hall committee.

18. By entering this competition, you agree to abide by the above rules.
